Our Good Shepherd Sunday begins with the beautiful arrangement of "My Shepherd Will Supply My Need" by American composer Virgil Thomson. It uses the tune "Resignation" from Southern Harmony and a paraphrase of Psalm 23 by Isaac Watts.
British composer John Tavener said the following about his much loved setting of the poem by William Blake.
"The Lamb was written twenty-two years ago for my then 3-year old nephew, Simon. It came to me 'full grown' so I had only to write it down. Blake's child-like vision perhaps explains The Lamb's great popularity in a world that is starved of this precious and sacred dimension in almost every aspect of life."
