Welcome to Sundays at Home

Good morning and welcome to Trinity! So glad you are tuning in virtually for today’s service. As we worship remotely, each week you’ll find Sundays at Home with Trinity Episcopal Church. We will be featuring the full service recording, as well as the sermon and anthem on their own.

If you would like to join us for an in-person service we have two options for Holy Eucharist. An 8am service in our sanctuary (without music) and then a full service at 10am in the Bishop’s Garden each Sunday. Simply bring a chair, mask, and a heart for worship.

Once again, thank you for tuning in and for being faithful with your time, talents, and treasures.

Grace and Peace!
Rev. Jonathan V. Adams

About the Music:

This week’s service begins with a gentle “Andante in D major (1823)” by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847), a German composer, organist, pianist, and conductor of the early Romantic period. Among his best known compositions are the Christmas Carol “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and the oratorio “Elijah”, first performed in 1846. This oratorio depicts events in the life of the Prophet Elijah as told in the Old Testament books of 1 and 2 Kings. The Offertory is an excerpt from that work, sung by tenor Julian Baldwin. In the Recitative (a passage sung in speech-like rhythm) “Ye People Rend Your Hearts”, Obadiah exhorts the people of Israel to look within for redemption. This is followed by the lovely aria “If With All Your Hearts”.Rounding out this week’s organ voluntaries is the “Toccata in e minor” by Johann Pachelbel, a Baroque organist best known for his famous “Canon in D”.
